Chicago Starring: Catherine Zeta-Jones .... Velma Kelly Renée Zellweger .... Roxanne 'Roxie' Hart Richard Gere .... Billy Flynn Queen Latifah .... Matron 'Mama' Morton John C. Reilly .... Amos Hart Lucy Liu .... Kitty Baxter Went to see this tonight at the Catherine Zeta-Jones) is also in the prison, but as a former performer she uses her imprisonment to get her attention and her picture in the paper. Velma (C Z-J) feels threatened by the arrival of Roxie Love (Renée Zellweger) and the attention she gets by trying to drum up support for her approaching hearing. The film is almost solid music, so if that doesn't float your boat, stay away. The music I did enjoy, and all the cast gave very good performances both singing and acting, Catherine Z-J (-D?) especially imo. Aside from the music, the film does contain some funny moments, and had me chuckling more than once. There's also some drama, although nothing nail-biting, and there's no real romance. Only one short passion scene at the beginning. Renée Zellweger looks a far cry from her former Bridget Jones self, appearing anorexically-thin at times. She has no boobs left, and has lost everything that was womanly about her in that film. During her solo near the middle of the film, she is in a skimpy, silver, one-piece, and if you covered her face, you could just imagine it being one of those comedy sketches that Frank Skinner does, dressing up to take the mick!
